Alfie Boe has been eliminated from Celebrity MasterChef.

The 52-year-old star has become the latest celebrity to leave the BBC show, meaning that this year's MasterChef crown will be contested by Dawn O'Porter, Alun Why Jones and Ginger Johnson.

After his exit was confirmed, Alfie said: "This has been quite precious. These moments in life that come about are really special. I’m happy to be going home as a Celebrity MasterChef finalist."

Alfie left the show after underwhelming the judges with his "eggy" cake, which was a tribute to his late father, who died 28 years ago.

The tenor made a Belgian Le Miserable cake, which featured ginger and cinnamon poached apricots - but Grace Dent wasn't impressed with his efforts.

Grace said: "The Le Mis part of it is undercooked and because of that, it tastes a bit of egg. But the Parkin is just incredible, it's gingery and satisfying. Love it."

Alfie previously claimed that winning MasterChef wasn't his only motivation for joining the TV show.

He told the BBC: "I wanted to rise to the challenge of the Celebrity MasterChef competition. But also, when I got here, I realised it’s not all about winning the show. It's about learning, it's about picking up tips, and being strong on timings – that element of the competition is tough."

Alfie recalled feeling "tense" before he walked into the MasterChef studio for the first time.

He said: "Walking into the MasterChef kitchen was pretty scary, I've got to say.

"Once we'd got the first challenge out of the way the pressure felt like it had been lifted slightly, but initially going in was tense."

Asked what his family thinks of his cooking skills, Alfie replied: "I think my family like my food.

"They've never really complained, apart from my daughter when I made her a birthday cake that one time! Maybe after seeing me on this programme, they might think twice and be a bit a little more critical, so I'm going to have to improve my standard."
