Amber Davies insists she hasn't deliberately copied one of her West End routines on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 29-year-old star has come under fire for having a background in dance while competing on the BBC show, but Amber - who played Jordan Baker in The Great Gasby: A New Musical at the London Coliseum between April and September - insists one of her recent routines was distinct from what she'd previously performed.

Following criticism from some TV viewers, Amber said on the Talk of the Townsend podcast: "I asked if I could just put a little easter egg because obviously the new money routine went viral on social media. So I just thought it would be like, illegal, for me to not at least put [it in]."

A BBC spokesperson has also defended the former Love Island star.

The spokesperson said in a statement: "This was a new routine choreographed for Strictly Come Dancing, which - as already discussed online - briefly paid tribute to The Great Gatsby as a nod to Musicals Week."

Meanwhile, Amber recently took to social media after reaching the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The TV star admitted to being thrilled to have made it so far in the competition.

Amber – who will compete against social media star George Clarke and ex-footballer Karen Carney in the final – said in a video clip: "I just want to come on here and say in the close to a decade I've been in the public eye, I have never experienced an outpouring of love the way I have in the last 48 hours.

"To make the Strictly final is ... I'm speechless. From how it started, I genuinely can't believe I've made it to the end."

Amber added: "I think I've needed to do Strictly to realise there's so much kindness in the world.

"We're strong when we're kinder. I'm going to enjoy every single second of this week. I'm rooting for George, I'm rooting for Kaz and I'm just there to enjoy the ride."
