Jennifer Metcalfe wants to 'bring sexy back' to Hollyoaks

Jennifer Metcalfe is hoping to "bring a little bit of sexy back" to Hollyoaks.
The 42-year-old actress has played Mercedes McQueen on the Channel 4 soap since 2006, and after spending the last year focusing on a hard-hitting storyline, Jennifer now wants more saucy scenes for her on-screen character.
The brunette beauty told The Sun newspaper: "I want a bit of the old Hollyoaks back.
"It was a hangover TV on Sunday. Sexy, sassy people swanning around the village.
"I know times have changed so everyone doesn’t want to see that in every single scene but for me I’m like, let’s bring a little bit of sexy back.
"So whenever there’s a little chance for me to have a bit, I’ll try. Just wandering around, just saying, I’ll do it in my bra and more sexy scenes."
Jennifer suggested that the "sexy" scenes actually differentiate Hollyoaks from the other British soaps.
The actress said: "I think it’s what made us a bit different. It’s sometimes trying to go against the grain a little bit.
"But I think at the minute, especially with the stunt that’s going to happen, it’s very serious at the minute.
"And I do love that, but I love seeing the contrast as well of the lightness. So I’m hoping there’s a bit of lightness after this, because it’s been heavy."
Meanwhile, Jennifer previously revealed that her Hollyoaks cancer storyline actually helped her grieve for her late father.
The soap star told The Sun newspaper in 2024: "My dad died of bowel cancer when I was 15 so I lived through it with him, which is why I wanted to do this storyline as well.
"You can get some people that go, ‘I can't do that because I went through that and I don't want to tap into that’. I've never grieved for my dad. That's like pure grief what we watched there. Pure therapy and the rest of it."
