The 77-year-old actor branded it his "worst habit" and that his 45-year-old son George Lamb - whom Larry has with his ex-wife, 72-year-old singer Linda E. Martin - calls him the "Stig of the Dump" because of it.

Larry told the new issue of My Weekly magazine: "My worst habit is that I bite my toenails and fingernails.

"George calls me Stig of the Dump!"

The Gavin and Stacey actor - who has a daughter from his first marriage to Anita Wisbey and two daughters from his relationship with Claire Burt - also revealed he talks "with my mouth full", which "drives everyone mad".

Larry - who currently lives in Cornwall with his partner Marie Hugo - said his childhood was filled with arguments and turmoil due to his parents, Ronald and Jessie's, dysfunctional relationship.

As Ronald was treated badly by his dad, it was passed on to him, and later Larry - who, with his siblings, later lived with Ronald and their paternal grandmother after Jessie left him aged nine.

But Linda made sure Larry was not "domineering and controlling" over George.

The former EastEnders star explained: "My own father had been badly mis-parented by his dad, who was very domineering and controlling.

"And then it passed on to him, and he did it with me.

"And it was George's mum who made sure this didn't carry on. She gave me some stern words when George was very young."

Larry - who says he and his son are "mates" - credits being truthful with George for their strong relationship.

The actor added: "So we have a really wonderful relationship because it's all based on honesty.

"There's no bullying."

Larry - whose acting career has spanned five decades - recently admitted his biggest regret is "not being nice enough" to people during his life.

Asked by George what his "biggest regret" in life is in a YouTube video of the pair answering National Rail's 36 Questions to Connect, Larry admitted: "Not being nice enough to enough people over my life.

"You know, a lot of people that I've upset."
