‘Shōgun’ starring Hiroyuki Sanada has led nominations for all TV categories in the Critics’ Choice Awards.

The first season of FX’s Emmy-winning smash, set in 17th-century Japan, earned an Emmy record by winning 18 gongs in one series – and has now received six nominations from the Critics’ Choice committees.

Tying in second with four nods each are ‘Abbott Elementary’, ‘Disclaimer’, ‘Hacks’, ‘The Diplomat’, ‘The Penguin’ and ‘What We Do in the Shadows’.

‘Shōgun’ will be up against ‘The Day of the Jackal’ in the best drama category – along with ‘The Diplomat’, ‘Evil’, ‘Industry’, ‘Interview With the Vampire’, ‘The Old Man’ and ‘Slow Horses’.

The comedy series nominees are ‘Abbott Elementary’, ‘English Teacher’, ‘Hacks’, ‘Nobody Wants This’, ‘Only Murders in the Building’, ‘Somebody Somewhere’, ‘St Denis Medical’ and ‘What We Do in the Shadows’.

‘Disclaimer’ and ‘The Penguin’ led all limited series nominees, with the top category consisting of those shows plus ‘Baby Reindeer’, ‘Masters of the Air’, ‘Mr Bates vs the Post Office’, ‘Ripley’, ‘True Detective: Night Country’ and ‘We Were the Lucky Ones’.

Nominations in the Critics Choice Awards’ film categories will be announced on 12 December, and the winners in both the film and TV categories will be announced during the CCA event at the Barker Hangar, Los Angeles, exactly a month later.
