Alex Pettyfer filmed a hardcore sex scene as he tried out for a role in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' franchise.
The 33-year-old star went to extreme lengths in his attempts to land the part of Christian Grey in the movie adaptations of E.L. James' erotic novels as he teamed up with film director Gus Van Sant – who was trying to land the rights to direct the eponymous opening movie in the series.
Van Sant told The Hollywood Reporter: "It was one of the sex scenes. I thought it was to get (E.L. James) to see my enthusiasm. It's hard, in the ramp-up, to get people to understand where you're going if you actually make the movie.
"Some people make sizzle reels. That might've been more the way to go. But Alex Pettyfer really wanted to do it, so I thought, 'We can just do a scene. And we did. And we showed them.'"
Despite their best efforts, Pettyfer and Van Sant missed out on involvement in the franchise as Jamie Dornan was cast as Christian Grey and Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the flick.
Dornan recently revealed how he and his wife shut themselves away from the rest of the world to escape the "damnation" in the wake of the picture's release in 2015.
The 41-year-old star – who had been acclaimed for his role in the TV series 'The Fall' beforehand - told BBC Radio 4's 'Desert Island Discs': "I think I hid. I am coming off the back of career-altering reviews for 'The Fall' to just ridicule almost."
