Dulquer Salmaan’s wife has “not accepted” that he is an actor.

The 36-year-old star has appeared in Bollywood hits like films like 'OK Kanmani' and 'Sita Ramam' over his career but revealed that his designer wife Amal Sufiya – who he tied the knot with more than a decade ago – is “so disconnected” from what he actually does when he goes to work in the morning.

He told the Times of India: “My wife has still not accepted the fact that I'm an actor, for her I'm just a guy who goes to work and comes back.

“Honestly, in the first two to three years of my marriage, if someone would come up and ask me for a picture, she would ask me why they want a picture with you and I had to remind her that I'm an actor. She's so disconnected sometimes. For her it is like I know what you are at home, people only see you as groomed!”

Dulquer is the son of actor Mammootty – who is known for his roles in 1980s classics like ‘Sandhyakku Virinja Poovu and ‘Aa Raathri’ but continues to work regularly today making up to five movies a year – and went on to add that his dad often urges him to take on more and more movie roles and insists that he is not welcome at his home if he only takes on a single film project every year.

He added: “He himself does around five films a year, and I usually work on these long, eight-nine-month projects that he can’t quite comprehend. He tells me, ‘You can’t come to my house if you do only one film a year.”
