Simu Liu has confirmed his Shang-Chi will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.

After debuting as the hero in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the 36-year-old actor is set to reprise his role in the 2026 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday, and Liu has now revealed Shang-Chi will also have a part to play in the 2027 sequel.

When asked for an update on the second Shang-Chi movie at New York Comic Con, Liu said: “There’s not a whole lot to tease right now … but it is happening.

“The more immediate tease is of course, is Doomsday … which I was lucky enough to be a part of and will be lucky enough to be a part of its successor in Secret Wars.”

As well as Liu, Avengers: Doomsday will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (James ‘Bucky’ Barnes), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent) and Lewis Pullman (Sentry).

The Fantastic Four - as portrayed by Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) - will also appear in the movie.

Outside of the MCU, X-Men icons Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Channing Tatum (Gambit), James Marsden (Cyclops) and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) are set to return for the blockbuster.

It was also recently confirmed Chris Evans is due to reprise his role as Steve Rogers after last portraying Captain America in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Doomsday - which is being helmed by directors Joe and Anthony Russo and is due to land in cinemas on December 18, 2026 - will likely follow the Avengers, the New Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as they join forces to stop Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) from unleashing his devastating plans for the Multiverse.

Liu previously said his role in Avengers: Doomsday “means everything” to him.

During an interview with People magazine, he said: “It means everything.

“It’s such a privilege to have played a character that resonated with so many different people.”

The Kim’s Convenience star praised MCU fans and noted he is “always gonna be beyond grateful” for their support, which has propelled his career.

He added: “And part of that is like getting to put the suit back on again, except with these incredible legendary actors, many of whom I grew up idolising and worshipping. Now, I get to call them my co-workers.”

Liu also noted he has heard fans’ pleas to see more of Shang-Chi, who hasn’t appeared in the MCU since his 2021 debut.

He said: “You’re not the only one that's kind of felt that absence.

“Somebody tells me in some way, shape or form - I’m not kidding you, I’m not being hyperbolic - every single day of my life and oftentimes multiple times in a day.”
