Famke Janssen is “really excited to see” her former X-Men co-stars return in Avengers: Doomsday.

The 60-year-old actress played Jean Grey in 20th Century Studios’ X-Men series, and while she won’t be appearing in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster, Janssen can’t wait to see her X-Men castmates back in action for Avengers: Doomsday.

Speaking with Screen Rant about how Avengers: Doomsday will honour the X-Men franchise’s legacy, the Amsterdam Empire actress said: “Yeah, to be honest with you, I don’t really know the storyline, so I’m not sure. It’s not my world, it’s never been my world, really, that whole comic book world.

“I should know by now, I’ve been in it long enough. But I’m really excited to see when it comes out. Just like everyone else, I’ll find out what those storylines are and how it all ended up.”

Janssen added the X-Men movies “were great films to be part of, and they’ve done so many good things for [her] career”.

She noted: “It’s just amazing that over all these years, I’ve had these franchises, like the X-Men, or Taken for three films, or the Netflix series, Hemlock Grove, for three seasons, or Amsterdam Empire and a Bond film [GoldenEye].

“It’s [amazing] being part of these, but then having the variety constantly works best for me. I’m really not good at repeating anything.”

Avengers: Doomsday will see the return of X-Men icons Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Channing Tatum (Gambit), James Marsden (Cyclops) and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique).

Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (James ‘Bucky’ Barnes), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent) and Lewis Pullman (Sentry) are also confirmed to appear in the movie.

Finally, the Fantastic Four - as played by Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) - are set to round out the cast.

Avengers: Doomsday - which is being helmed by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo and is slated to land in cinemas on December 18, 2026 - will likely follow the Avengers, the New Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as they join forces to stop Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) from unleashing his devastating plans across the Multiverse.

Previously, Marsden, 52, described his return as Cyclops after nearly two decades away as “a nice little homecoming.”

The Sonic the Hedgehog actor - who portrayed the mutant hero from 2000’s X-Men until his death in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) - told Vanity Fair: “I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume.

“I was excited because you’re a part of something gigantic, and I’ve spent 20 years listening to people say, ‘When are you coming back? When are you coming back? Are you coming back?’ I’m dead. Well, maybe not.

“I’m going to have a tough time struggling to get into costume if they waited a couple more years.”
