Princess Diana was 'told off' over her 'movie star hair'
Diana, Princess of Wales was "told off" by Queen Elizabeth for wearing her hair in a "movie star" style at a public event back in 1984 - and it prompted the late royal to adopt more "simple" styles in future.

The late royal - who died in a car accident in Paris, France in 1997 - attended the annual State Opening of Parliament in 1984 and she wore her hair in a chignon topped with the tiara she wore to during her wedding to King Charles, who was then Prince of Wales, three years earlier.
However, her brother Earl Charles Spencer has now claimed the hair style didn't go down well with Queen Elizabeth, who scolded the princess. In his new book Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, Spencer wrote: "[Diana wore her hair in] a bun pinned at the nape of the neck, as favored by some movie stars a generation earlier.
"When Diana arrived at Parliament and descended from her horse-drawn carriage, there were gasps of admiration from onlookers.
"They were used to her trademark look, and were surprised that this had been replaced by something so ravishing .. [The tiara] looked particularly magnificent atop her sweeping hair, while her bone structure was shown off to great effect."
Spencer went on to claim the late Queen spoke to Diana about her hair and the princess adopted a more "simple" style going forwards.
He wrote: "The next day’s headlines were about Diana’s daring new hairstyle, with the monarch’s address at Parliament, detailing the Government’s legislative priorities for the year ahead, relegated to a mere footnote in the papers.
"Diana was told off, and she - ever respectful of 'the boss,' as she called the queen - from that point on, always wore her hair more simply at events that they both attended."
Diana's former hairdresser Richard Dalton previously revealed the late princess expressed her regret over the hair style she chose for her wedding day and wished she could have done it all over again.
He told PEOPLE: "Diana did express to me that she wished she could do the wedding over again to ‘get the hair right'. However, she never mentioned any other regrets while I did her hair."
Dalton also wrote about the years he spent working with Diana in his book It's All About the Hair - My Decade with Diana and revealed she used to open up to him about her life.
He wrote: "Some days she would be happy, some days quiet, some days talkative and some days sad. I experienced all of these with Diana. [On her low days] sparks would be flying off the hair dryer. I got used to the stress."
