Abbey Clancy has no regrets about her "tragic" look at the 2006 soccer World Cup in Germany.

The 40-year-old model had just started dating her now-husband Peter Crouch at the time of the tournament and she felt under pressure to keep up with all of the other players' wives and girlfriends - who were dubbed WAGs - so she packed a suitcase crammed with designer outfits for her trip.

In a piece written for Vogue magazine, she explained: "I do remember feeling insecure that
I wouldn’t be able to compete with all the famous wives and girlfriends in Germany.

"They had the designer gear and I didn’t, so I [went shopping] ... I bought every single thing the Wags had ... I don’t buy anything with logos on now, but everything I wore screamed designer ... It was a flashy, vibrant era, and I wanted it all."

Abbey joked her hair at the time was "tragic" but she looks back fondly on the colourful outfits.

She added: "Looking back, I like my confidence. The hair was tragic – bleached within an inch of its life, with synthetic hair extensions – but that was who I was when I met my husband and the father of my four kids.

"I’d like to wear all those things now in a way, but I feel too old, which is silly, I know. I loved a frill, I loved a bit of pink and I loved a bit of bling. And I loved a silk cami ... I was braver then. There were no camera phones, you just went to a shop, picked up what you liked and wore it with zero repercussions ... "

Abbey added that she still wears the same make-up as she did at that World Cup 20 years ago - explaining she is still a fan of Rimmel London lipliner in Cappuccino, Lancome's mascara and the band's Juicy Tubes lip gloss.

She concluded of her 2006 look: "I wouldn’t change a thing, though. The fashion of that era – and the World Cup – backdropped my love story."

Abbey previously opened up about her current style in an interview with Stylist magazine last year with the model revealing she prefers a "classic" look and loves teaming a blazer with jeans but looking good doesn't mean having to splash out on pricey designer pieces.

She said: "Keep it classic. I work with my stylist, Karen Clarkson, who is incredible. We keep it really classic and mix in vintage for that special look.

"With fashion you don’t need to break the bank ... "
