Katie Holmes leans on makeup artist as she struggles with beauty routines
Katie Holmes got candid as she gave her fans a glimpse into her morning makeup routine.
Katie Holmes struggles with beauty routines.
The 47-year-old actress has to lean on her makeup artist, Genevieve, for basic techniques.
In a video posted to Instagram on Sunday (17.05.26), Katie appeared fresh-faced as she applied concealer, foundation, blush, lip liner and lip gloss while explaining her morning makeup routine to fans.
The Dawson's Creek star said: "In daily life, I do very minimal makeup because I don't feel that confident in my ability to put on makeup. Also, I’m a '90s kid. That was cool back then, and I guess I still think it’s the '90s.
"My amazing makeup artist, Genevieve, is still giving me lessons on how to apply blush. And I'm 40-something years old, and I'm still learning. She says, always just a little dot on the nose, kind of like salt when you're cooking. Throw it back."
Katie praised her Our Town Broadway show co-stars, Zoey Deutch, 31, and Michelle Wilson, for getting her brows looking good.
The Batman Begins entertainer continued: "When we were doing Our Town together, every night, I would go and say, 'How did I do on my brows?' Yeah, I usually have one good night of brows.
"I'm realising that I'm talking to myself, which is pretty normal."
Katie also lifted the lid on her experience of living in New York.
The Secret: Dare to Dream cast member shared: "I have lived in New York on and off since 2012, and New York is just, I don't know, it's the best. I was in San Diego for three months this winter, so I missed the winter, which I wasn't upset about because the winter is hard in New York.
"I’ll be back next year. I will be with everyone. I will do the snow angels, and I will go to the park, and then I will be grumpy. Like everyone. I love it."
Katie compares herself to a man when she gets ready in the morning.
The Jack and Jill alum explained: "You know, men don't spend that much time getting dressed in the morning or thinking about it. I tend to be, I guess, a little bit more like that, sort of always in a rush and, I've had a lot on my mind."
The Big Apple has changed Katie's style.
The Gift performer said: "I do appreciate how different things in the city can influence so much of your style because it's like, 'Oh, you can go see a show.' And like, maybe that time period makes you think about like, 'Oh, I want to wear a bolero because I love that show and who cares?'
"Or, I was walking yesterday, and I saw this really beautiful rosebud bush. It looked like a sherbet ice cream cone. I woke up and put a pink sweater on, probably unconsciously."
Katie applied a rose-shade lip gloss, which she "didn't plan", but "wish I had. That would have been really smart".
The Hollywood star then touched upon how trends go full circle.
Katie said: "I feel like I wore a darker lip to prom, and then there were many years of like the nude lip, and now that it's come back around, I feel like, 'Oh, wow,' you're really seeing at a certain point in your life how everything is cyclical."
The Happy Hours director noted that colours from the same family make it easier for her to get dressed and feel confident.
Katie said: "And this is actually part of this whole colour story. They're all sort of the same family, which makes life very confident-making, like, 'Oh, I know I did that right.
"And I feel really, you know, ready."
