Margot Robbie has recreated Kylie Minogue's Come Into My World music video in a new advert for Chanel.
The 35-year-old Barbie star - who is an ambassador for the fashion house - stepped into the pop star's place in the ad for the Chanel 25 handbag campaign which features multiple versions of Margot marching around Paris. The ad is set to the music of Kylie's 2001 track and the singer even makes a cameo appearance in the commercial, which was helmed by the original video's director Michel Gondry.
Margot admitted she was thrilled to recreate Kylie's video, telling Vogue: "It’s kind of a full-circle moment for me, too, because the very first concert I ever went to was Kylie Minogue’s Fever tour.
"Come Into My World was one of the songs on that album, and Michel Gondry directed the video. I remember watching it as a kid and thinking it was so cool and clever - the in-camera trickery he’s so famous for. So that’s what we’re recreating in this campaign."
The Wuthering Heights star went on to reveal the advert allowed her fulfil her dream of becoming Kylie without actually having to sing. She joked: "It’s actually perfect, because I can’t sing. So I’m doing Kylie without having to sing and ruin it for everyone."
Kylie has also spoken of her pride knowing the video is being given a new lease of life almost 25 years after its first release.
In an interview with social media star Lyas, which was posted on Instagram, she said: "[It's] amazing. Because I'm so proud of that work and it's you know in my cannon of videos it's one of the ones that's consistently mentioned. It baffles people as to how did Michel Gondry do that? ...
"The technology was probably quite new then and gigantic so it's called a motion control camera that does a loop and it's the exact same shot as it repeats so each time I came, like I drop my dry cleaning, and so each lap you have to get closer to the camera to try to hear 'follow me'.
"I'm trying to not block the other Kylie so when there's four Kylies it got a little complicated. It's one shot. It's crazy."
She added of Chanel's new take: "Honestly I'm really touched by it because every artistic endeavour, I go in with a full heart and it's just something to know that almost 25 years later, in collaboration with Chanel, that we've created another moment with Margot playing me.
"For me it continues the cyclic feeling of the video. I know Michel was inspired by the repetitive nature of the song, so here we are kind of doing another cycle.”
