Ncuti Gatwa has "so much fun" with the fashion in 'Doctor Who'.
The 32-year-old actor loves the fact the programme's costume designer, Pam Downe, helps to "explore" the era his Time Lord has travelled to through his many outfits and views his garments as a "great narrative device".
Asked how it feels to be the most fashionable Doctor yet, he told Fangirlish: “Oh my gosh, what a title. Thank you. Do you know what? It’s so much fun. I think it’s just such a great narrative plot of just a great narrative device, I guess.
“We’re travelling to so many different places, times. We’re exploring so many genres and it’s just kind of interesting aesthetically to explore that sartorially. And it’s just kind of cool that The Doctor just picks up on wherever they are and equips them for the adventure ahead."
Ncuti praised Pam's work and said she "nails it every single time" so he never feels he needs to get involved in choosing his costumes.
Asked if he has any input in his outfits, he said: "I guess I do, but I daren’t, not I daren’t question, but like everything she puts out in front of me, I’m like, “Yeah, I’ll wear all of that.” So it’s fun. It’s fun to get to explore the character through that avenue.”
The 'Barbie' actor, who works with stylist Felicity Kay, previously admitted he likes to incorporate his characters into his wardrobe.
He told Hollywood Reporter style: “How can I tie in the character or the show with me in a ‘fashion’ way?”
And Ncuti likes to champion emerging designers during "big moments" for his own career.
He said: “It speaks to my journey as an actor, as well. It’s worthwhile to support emerging artists because they are the ones that are pushing the narrative, and then pushing us forward.”
When it comes to red carpetwear, the actor loves "sexy, sensual" clothes.
He said: "How do I say this in a PG way
“I’m someone that very much wears my heart on my sleeve. My emotions are very clear for everyone to see, so I like pieces that have a mixture of strength and vulnerability.
“I always like something a little sexy, sensual.”
