Rachel Bilson experience postpartum hair thinning and admits she is "still in my mom-bun era".
Rachel Bilson's hair thinned after becoming a mom.
The 43-year-old actress has admitted it was "very depressing" seeing her tresses change dramatically after having her nine-year-old daughter Briar Rose – whose father is ‘Star Wars’ actor Hayden Christensen, also 43 - because she loves to switch up her style and could no longer achieve the same high ponytail.
Taking part in Allure's 'Just One Thing' series, she said: "I want to do something crazy with my hair, like, weekly. I’ve done bangs again and I have to prevent myself from cutting them, because every time that happens, it’s a disaster. My hair changed completely when I became a mom [to daughter Briar Rose]. It is so thin now; my ponytail is like the size of a penny. It’s very depressing. I’m already so low-maintenance with my hair, but I am definitely still in my mom-bun era. You learn over time that you can never do your hair as well as the professionals - I’ve worked with my hairstylist, Davy [Newkirk], for over 20 years. But I have learned how to curl my hair without it looking like a bouncy, put-together curl. I can make it more beachy, but I'm still not great at it."
The 'O.C.' star doesn't consider he hair to be "pretty" and admits the "messier" it is "the better".
Sharing her "bad" hair routine, she said: "I guess you could call that a natural look, but my natural hair definitely needs some tweaking. My routine is really bad - I don't do anything to my hair unless I absolutely have to. I don't wash it every day because that just does not work for my hair or the frizz that comes with it, but for shampoos and conditioners, I love R+Co. And I know this is going to make me sound like an old lady, but I still swear by [L’Oréal Paris] Elnett [hairspray]. It’s great. It brushes out, and it’s a miracle."
