Anne Hathaway hails Donatella Versace as ‘iconic’
Revealing how she is amazed by the way the fashion design veteran wields her power in a “fun” way, Anne Hathaway has heaped praise on Donatella Versace as an “iconic” personality.
Anne Hathaway says Donatella Versace is “iconic” as she wields her power in a “fun” way.
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ actress, 41, heaped praise on the 68-year-old fashion design veteran as she continues to front her new Versace Icons campaign alongside Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy.
Anne said in a new black-and-white video released on Versace’s social media to support the campaign, in which she discussed shooting its promotional materials: “There was this amazing moment. We were on set, and we were calling for someone to approve, and Donatella walks up and she goes, ‘I approve – what more do you need?’
“And it was just… the way she walks into spaces, owns her power in a way that’s so much fun and makes you… I don’t know, gives everybody energy.
“That feels iconic to me.”
The video also showed Donatella on the set of Anne’s Versace shoot, telling her: “You’re fierce.”
Anne is also seen saying about her look in the shoot: “I think this hairdo is fairly iconic. It reminds me of a movie I made when I was 17 years old.”
The actress was also filmed going through racks of clothes during the shoot – and threatening to steal a piece when it was over.
She jokes: “I really want to steal this one. I want to steal all of them – but this one in particular might disappear in my bag on my way home.”
Donatella has praised Anne and Cillian, 47, as “very Versace” adding: “Strong, direct, iconic. For me, Anne and Cillian are two of the best actors of today. Exceptionally talented and kind people I admire and respect, looking their best.”
The campaign, shot by photographer pair Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott with styling by Jacob K, finds the two actors wearing pieces from the new line including the Medusa ’95 corset leather dress, which costs $4,600, and denim bustier ($1,325) for Anne – and the Barocco panelled gabardine trench (at $2,925) and tailored suiting on Cillian.
Anne has sported the brand for her many red carpet appearances including at the Met Gala.
She said in a launch press release for the Icons collection: “I have met so many Versace women who are powerful, emotionally available, ambitious, substantive, funny, fierce, loving, singular, sexy, smart, talented, generous, very much like Donatella.
“I have observed that a Versace woman is herself. I am so thrilled and honoured to be considered a Versace woman and am overjoyed to reunite with the Versace family for another Icons campaign.”
