DMA’S open to studio collaboration with Melanie C after backstage meeting
DMA’S say they’d happily team up with Melanie C after a backstage encounter at Neighbourhood Weekender.
DMA'S are down for a collaboration with Melanie C after an encounter at a festival.
The Australian rock band's rhythm guitarist Johnny Took made a beeline for Sporty Spice backstage at the festival in May, partly because of his sister’s lifelong love of the group.
He told Radio X: “She was super cool.
“I said to [Mason] Mace the other day I was like, man, I gotta get a photo with Mel C, you know. My sister was a massive Spice Girls fan. I love the Spice Girls.”
Johnny said he approached Melanie C for a quick photo, only to discover she already knew who DMA’S were - and even had a personal connection to their home turf.
He recalled: “I went up to her and I was like, ‘Hey Mel, like, do you mind if I get a photo?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah, of course, of course.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m playing later today actually, so, um, yeah, I hope your set was good’. And she goes, ‘Yeah, DMA’S right?’ I was like, that’s cool.”
He added that she went on to mention that her partner Chris Dingwall - now her husband - is from Western Australia.
He recounted: “She goes, ‘My husband’s from Western Sydney, so I’m out there quite a bit.’ And she was super lovely, super cool, really nice.”
Johnny was asked if he'd be up for Melanie joining them in the studio to record a track, to which he said: "I'm into it."
Mason chimed in with: “We would talk."
Frontman Tommy O’Dell sealed the deal with: “Sounds good to me, man.”
DMA'S released their self-titled album in April.
