Taylor Swift marks 14th No.1 hit as Opalite tops the Billboard Hot 100 — and jokes about buying a pretzel to celebrate
Opalite has finally reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 a month after its release.
Taylor Swift has scored yet another major chart milestone, as Opalite storms to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her 14th song to reach the top spot and her second chart-topper from The Life of a Showgirl.
To mark the achievement, the 36-year-old pop idol shared a series of behind‑the‑scenes clips from the recording sessions with studio wizards and songwriting legends Max Martin and Shellback and the music video, pairing the footage with a message overflowing with gratitude — and her signature Easter‑egg humour.
She penned on Instagram: “Just a few Opalite memories to celebrate the Hot 100 #1 you guys just got this song!!
“I can’t even sum up my excitement and I’m so blown away by the love you’ve shown this song and video.”
Taylor went on to highlight the scale of the moment for her career.
She continued: “This is actually the first time I’ve had two Hot 100 #1s off of one album since my album 1989 came out in 2014, nearly twelve years ago! I know that’s a lot of numbers but it all adds up to me being so thankful to the fans who helped make this happen by welcoming this song into your lives with open arms.”
The other chart-topper from her latest studio effort, The Life of a Showgirl, is The Fate of Ophelia.
Then, in classic Swift fashion, she signed off with a wink to the fandom’s ongoing Easter‑egg sleuthing: “Seriously bouncing off the walls about this!! Just wanted to say THANK YOU, might go buy a giant pretzel at the mall to celebrate, iykyk (sic).”
The pretzel reference isn’t random. Fans spotted that the Opalite music video hides infinity symbols disguised as pretzels, a detail Swifties immediately linked to the singer’s long‑running love of coded visuals and layered symbolism. The playful nod has already sparked a wave of theories — and plenty of pretzel‑themed memes — across social media.
