Kylie Minogue compares festive chart battle with Mariah Carey to trying to tame a tidal wave
Kylie Minogue would love to claim her first Christmas No.1 with XMAS.
Kylie Minogue says battling Mariah Carey for Christmas number one is like "trying to stop a tidal wave".
The Australian pop princess has a chance of scoring her first Yuletide chart-topper with her festive hit XMAS, one of the new tracks released on the 10th anniversary reissue of Kylie Christmas - dubbed Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) - but she admits it's no easy feat when you are up against the Queen of Christmas herself and her enduring hit All I Want For Christmas Is You.
She told the Daily Star: “Honestly, I haven’t been thinking about that.
That’s like trying to stop a tidal wave. No MC will always be Christmas. But hey, we’ll see. It would make me feel like it’s 1988 again, which would be a lot of fun.”
Kylie and her Neighbours co-star Jason Donovan missed out on Christmas No. 1 with Especially For You in 1988, with charity single Band Aid II's Do They Know It's Christmas? nabbing the top spot.
She quipped: “Did we get bumped?
"Well, let’s just say it would be nice. But most important to me is getting XMAS out of my system because it’s been 10 years in my brain.”
Elsewhere, Kylie revealed that Sir Elton John sits firmly at the top of her dream collaboration list.
She said: “Elton John.
“I've only performed with him once in ‘94. He was dressed in drag as Donatella Versace!”
Meanwhile, the Padam Padam singer is planning to take a break from the spotlight after a hectic two years, with two albums and a 66-date Tension world tour under her belt, but that doesn't mean she won't be working.
She told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: “It feels like I haven’t stopped. It’s been a gigantic year but I imagine I will be making music just for the love of it and maybe banking some things.
“I could happily be in the studio most of my time. I love it. I find it just gets richer and more satisfying.
“Doing the Christmas album in my breaks of the Tension Tour was maybe not so wise, but I love it.
“I don’t know about releasing. I think I should just do the background work . . . maybe.”
