Miranda Kerr has been battling a painful health condition in secret for years.

The 43-year-old model has revealed she was diagnosed with proctitis - which causes uncomfortable bowel issues - and it means she now has to be "really specific" about what she eats so she's changed her diet to cut out foods such as eggs which could trigger inflammation.

She told Australia's Stellar magazine: "This is what I do for me because I've had my blood taken and I've had issues for, oh my goodness. I had proctitis. It's an inflammatory bowel thing, so I have to be really specific about what I eat.

"Certain things inflame me. That doesn’t mean it inflames everyone. For instance, my kids eat eggs. That's amazing, right?"

Miranda went on to explain she's started eating meats such as bison and venison because they don't cause her problems but she's not forcing her kids, Flynn, 15, Hart, eight, Myles, seven, and Pierre, two, to change their diets as well.

She added: "My kids are not eating bison, but I am because that's what is working for me. That's why I've placed such a huge emphasis on my health.

"When I'm feeling my best, I give my best as a mother, my best to my work, my best as a friend.

"The most important thing is to be honest and truthful with what works for you, right? What works for me doesn't necessarily work for everyone else."

Miranda went on to add: "I really did enjoy eggs. I miss eggs."

The model previously opened up about her diet during an appearance on the Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari podcast in August.

She said; "I've been drinking noni juice since I was 13. I'm 43 - [that's] 30 years! Noni juice is a superfood, superfruit. It originates from Tahiti, but it can grow in other parts of the world like Australia too."

Miranda added she only eats meats that "aren't mass-produced" and she swaps out bread and rice for vegetables, adding: "'I really eat a lot of squash, carrots and parsnips."

She also makes sure she's careful with the oils she uses in cooking, explaining: "'I'm very specific about the oils. So only cooking with coconut oil or avocado oil. No seed oils. Olive oil is okay on salads, but not to cook with."
