Muse star Matt Bellamy has filed for divorce from wife Elle Evans.
The 48-year-old singer didn’t list a date of separation in the summons filed in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday (12.08.26), but cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the break-up.
He is also seeking sole custody of his and Elle’s children - Lovella, six, and two-year-old son George.
In addition, Matt referred to the former couple’s premarital agreement as he asked the court to give Elle spousal support.
Elle, 46, now has 30 days to respond to the filing, but told TMZ she’s planning to contest Matt’s custody request, and fight for custody of their kids herself.
Matt previously revealed he and Elle had separated in summer 2025, as he told The i Paper in June: “Because it’s one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn’t normally think it is.
“It was a set of really unexpected circumstances. It’s the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life.
“It threw me off, and I had to prioritise looking after the kids and creating stability at home.”
Matt and Elle got engaged in December 2017, with the actress and model writing in a post on Instagram at the time: “I can’t imagine our lives apart.
“What I can imagine is a bright future full of love light, family friends, moments that turn into cherished memories, and a lifetime of pure bliss.”
They went on to tie the knot in August 2019.
The Muse frontman was previously engaged to Kate Hudson from 2011 to 2014, with their son Bingham now 15.
In the interview with The i Paper, Matt explained that he channelled all his emotions “in the depths of this life-changing experience” into Muse’s album The Wow! Signal.
He explained: “It was just — boom. It would just pour out of me. It might have been the easiest album for me to make, because it was such a catharsis. It became a lifeline for me.”
