Tracee Ellis Ross felt 'emotional' at Swiss boarding school, but why?
Tracee Ellis Ross has recalled being overcome with emotion during a trip to Switzerland.
Tracee Ellis Ross felt "emotional" when she recently revisited her Swiss boarding school.
The 53-year-old actress attended Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland over 40 years ago and she recently revisited the school for season two of her TV show, Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross.
The Hollywood star told Travel + Leisure: "It was emotional and hilarious."
Tracee explained that the time she spent at the school left a huge impression on her.
She said: "The years I was there were so impactful to me.
"The campus is very old school. My dorm was exactly the same — it is no longer a dorm, but the floor, the door handles were exactly the same.
"It felt like being in a time machine. I couldn’t stop crying. Being an adult and revisiting a place … the whole show could be me crying in front of a dorm room."
Tracee also explained that she learned some important life lessons from season one of the show.
She reflected: "The biggest thing I learned was to trust my instincts and do as best as I can to make it as authentic an experience as it can be. It really is borne out of what I would do, as opposed to what a show would do."
Tracee explained that she loves to travel and learn about new cultures.
Asked how solo travel has changed her perspective of the world, Tracee replied: "It turned the volume up on it.
"I love people. I really love different cultures. I love learning, the idea of being able to wander.
"Being in Thailand, my entire nervous system settled. Switzerland reminded me that travel offers perspective on what you do and what you know – and you learn beyond that. In softball, when you swing with two bats, and then swing with one – you’re lighter. Travel is like that. You get back home, and you have a renewed appreciation for your bed."
