Nicholas Galitzine reveals gruelling calory intake and fitness regime for He-Man role
Nicholas Galitzine has revealed how many calories he was eating in a day to prepare for Masters of the Universe.
Nicholas Galitzine was eating 5,000 calories a day for his He-Man transformation.
The 31-year-old actor is playing the iconic superhero in new movie Masters of the Universe, and he has opened up about the gruelling process he went through to earn his ripped physique.
Reflecting on the fitness regime, he told E! News: "It was an every day a week thing. It was a pretty short amount of time.
"You kind of would love to live in this character for a year beforehand but the training very much changed as the movie went on...
“We started out really trying to pack on as much size as possible. You know, having up to 5,000 calories sometimes, weightlifting for three hours a day and then we streamlined it.”
The Idea of You star admitted he ended up with "brain fog" as he found himself lowering his caloric intake.
He explained: “We started shooting and then I had to cut while we were shooting, which is pretty insane.
“You have that brain fog. So, I definitely felt like that was a thing but especially when you’re doing these action set pieces, you’ve gotta have energy for it.
"So, it was something I had to really work through on a day-to-day basis, but I really enjoyed the challenge.”
Meanwhile, Nicholas recently shared details of his first cheat meal after filming wrapped.
He told PEOPLE magazine: "It wasn't mentally difficult. I was so mentally ready to eat something disgusting.
"I want to say I had a combination of sushi and pizza, and I just was like, 'Give it. Give it all to me'. So no, it wasn't hard to go there.
"Given the fact that my next director did not want me to look like He-Man for his movie, he said, 'Eat as much as you want and stop working out.'"
Nicholas will next be seen as a World War II soldier in Red, White and Royal Wedding.
Asked whether that first cheat meal lived up to his hopes, Nicholas replied: "Better. Food is everything to me. It truly is."
