Zooey Deschanel hails 'kind' co-star Rob Reiner
Zooey Deschanel has heaped praise on Rob Reiner, her former co-star.
Zooey Deschanel was left "devastated" by Rob Reiner's passing.
The acclaimed filmmaker and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were both found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday (14.12.25), and Zooey has admitted to being heartbroken over the tragedy.
Zooey - who starred alongside Rob on New Girls for six years - told People: "He was just one of those people where you think, 'I cannot believe I get to work with this person'. He was so kind. He was fatherly to all of us."
The actress explained that Rob was loved and respected by his co-stars.
She said: "Everybody in the New Girl community loved him. Actors from the show — everyone from the show is devastated."
Nick Reiner has been charged with the murders of his parents.
Nick, 32, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday after being charged with their murders.
Nick wore a blue anti-suicide smock and shackles during his court appearance. His attorney, Alan Jackson, declined to enter a plea for his client.
However, Nick did speak briefly during the hearing.
Asked if Nick was okay waiving his right to a speedy arraignment, he replied, "Yes, your honour."
Nick's arraignment has been scheduled for January 7, 2026.
His attorney spoke to reporters after the hearing in Los Angeles.
Jackson said: "There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully, dealt with and examined and looked at and analysed."
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump previously took to social media to react to the tragedy.
The billionaire businessman wrote on the Truth Social platform: "Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.
"He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace (sic)"
