Ashton Kutcher was shocked to learn that Jessica Simpson was a 22-year-old virgin when she told him on That '70s Show in 2002.

The 45-year-old singer told Entertainment Tonight that she will "never forget" the 47-year-old actor not understanding why she abstained from having sex until she met her husband.

During a segment on the US TV show on November 20, Jessica looked back at a clip of her appearing as a guest star on That '70s Show in 2002.

She played Annette Berkardt, a love interest of Ashton's alter ego, Michael Kelso, and the storyline saw Jessica's character tell Michael that she was a sex novice - around the same time the singer publicly declared her celibacy.

In the 2002 clip, Jessica said: "I was just shooting a scene with Ashton - Michael - and I was telling him that we couldn't do it because I was a virgin."

Fast-forward 23 years, the With You singer laughed when she watched the video, and told Entertainment Tonight: "I'll never forget telling Ashton I was a virgin. He was like, 'Why?'

"I was like, 'Because I haven't met my husband yet.' I mean, I had met my husband [Nick Lachey] at that time, but I was a virgin. Guys like that."

Jessica - who has daughter Maxwell, 13, son Ace, 12, and daughter Birdie, six, with her 46-year-old estranged husband, Eric Johnson - then spoke about how her being a virgin was a hot topic.

She said: "At this age, I'm very, very innocent. I'm not thinking about other people and their sex lives at all.

"It was just something that I talked about, I think, in an interview, maybe. I'm sure they asked me, like, what type of guy I liked or something.

"They had to have asked me something about sex. It wouldn't be like, 'Hi, my name's Jessica Simpson. I'm a virgin.'"

Jessica also reflected that her record label was "probably shocked" by her being so open about being celibate.

The star added: "But I've always been open. Legs crossed - but open."

Also in her interview with Entertainment Tonight, the musician revealed "a million-dollar" music video to accompany her debut single, I Wanna Love You Forever, was filmed and starred Ashton.

However, it was "canned" and Jessica "quickly" recorded a replacement.

She explained: "There's a 'version one' that nobody has ever seen, and we need to get Sony to release the rights to that because I casted Ashton Kutcher as the male model, my love interest. And we had to, like, waltz.

"We were waltzing in this huge mansion, and it was ballroom dancing. It was a whole thing. It was a million-dollar video. What happened was my hair was a little bit wavy. And the head of the label wanted my hair straight."

Speaking about the replacement music video, Jessica added: "That was the complete opposite of what I had just done. There was no love interest, you know? It was just me in a vintage plane, in a field of fake daisies, sunflowers or something."
