Google has rolled out a wave of new Google Maps features ahead of the holidays, adding Gemini-powered tips, improved discovery tools and smarter EV-charging predictions to help users navigate the busiest season of the year.

The biggest upgrade is a new set of “know before you go” insights that appear when users search for places such as restaurants, hotels or venues.

Powered by Gemini, Maps now pulls key details from reviews and trusted online information - including dress codes, reservation tips, parking advice and even secret-menu items - and surfaces them as quick, tappable cards.

The feature is now live in the U.S. on both Android and iOS.

Google is also revamping the Explore tab to make last-minute holiday planning easier.

A simple swipe now reveals trending restaurants, local activities and nearby attractions, along with curated lists from partners like Lonely Planet, Viator and OpenTable.

The redesigned tab rolls out globally this month.

For EV drivers preparing long holiday road trips, Maps is introducing predicted charger availability.

The tool analyses real-time and historical data to estimate how many charging ports are likely to be free when drivers arrive - reducing queues at busy Tesla Supercharger, Electrify America and other network stations.

Predictions will begin rolling out next week to Android Auto and cars with Google built-in.

Rounding out the update is a festive new option to leave business reviews under a nickname and avatar, letting users spread holiday cheer as “Eager Elf” or “Julia Loves Sweets” without exposing their full identity.

Google has said its anti-abuse systems still verify accounts behind the scenes, ensuring reviews remain trustworthy.
