Jodie Whittaker cast with Ellen Pompeo in new Hulu dramedy
Former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker will play Ellen Pompeo's half-sister in Chicks.
Jodie Whittaker has been cast with Ellen Pompeo in new comedy drama Chicks.
The Doctor Who star, who is also set to be part of the next season of Only Murders In The Building, is set to star in the upcoming Hulu pilot written by Good American Family's Katie Robbins.
As reported by Deadline, Jodie joins Ellen in the cast as her character Chickie's estranged younger half-sister Doreen.
The two-hander dramedy sees the two characters trying to get by, only for things to get turned upside down when their wise guy dad unexpectedly dies.
He leaves them a "legacy of two-bit crime", which inspires the half-sisters to carry out over the top frauds, and the whole bizarre situation brings them together.
Doreen is described as "wiry and wired, as scrappy as they come", and someone who has worked "every job under the sun", including some "less-than-legal side hustles".
However, she's a "puppy dog" under the surface, and simply wants to be seen by Chicks.
Katie Robbins wrote Chicks based on an original idea she had with Grey's Anatomy star Ellen specifically in mind after they got to know each other on Good American Family.
Production is set to get underway in New York in September.
Meanwhile, last month it was revealed that Jodie and fellow Doctor Who alumni David Tennant will be part of the upcoming sixth season of Only Murders In The Building.
The murder mystery comedy stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as true crime podcasters Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora, who will swap New York City's Arconia for a London setting with a star studded cast of guest stars confirmed.
As well as the former Doctors, the upcoming season will also feature appearances from Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan, along with Richard Ayoade, Jim Broadbent, Adrian Lukis and Kathryn Hunter.
The new list of names follows a previous announcement that Spice Girls legend Geri Halliwell-Horner will also be part of the cast.
She was revealed alongside the likes of Jennifer Saunders, Martin Freeman, Matthew Beard, Sharon Horgan, Rhea Norwood, Sean Teale, Simone Ashley, Amar Chadha-Patel, Jane Horrocks, Derek Jacobi, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan and Lesley Nicol.
