Country singer Maren Morris reveals how a teacher changed her life
Maren Morris has explained how one particular teacher changed her life.
Maren Morris' high-school English teacher changed her life.
The 36-year-old country music singer has enjoyed huge success in her career, but Maren doubts whether it would've been possible without the support and encouragement of one particular teacher.
Maren told People: "Her name's Ms. Wheat, and she changed my life because she was really tough on me. She knew how capable I was, and that just made me want to impress her. And I feel like as a writer, as a songwriter, that absolutely had a big impact on me.
"Teachers do all this heavy lifting so kids can build imagination and self-esteem."
Maren actually still donates money to her old school, because she wants to encourage other young people to pursue their own ambitions.
She said: "All my meet and greet money, I've donated to fine arts and underprivileged schools — first being my own high school that I went to."
Maren thinks school kids should have access to musical instruments.
The Grammy-winning star explained: "I want the kids to have new instruments, new choir dresses and better drama clothes that don't smell like BO. It's not a lot to ask for."
Meanwhile, Maren previously claimed that she's witnessed fans "healing from [her] healing" following her divorce.
The singer attracted new fans through her Dreamsicle album, which touched on her split from ex-husband Ryan Hurd, and Maren believes the record helped other people to navigate their own heartbreak.
Speaking about her Dreamsicle Tour, Maren - who was married to Ryan between 2018 and 2024 - told People: "The crowds have been amazing. It’s just grown and grown as we’ve been out here this last month. It’s gotten more and more loud. A ton of new fans have discovered me through this record, and the OG fans from like 10 years ago, so it’s a really cool mix.
"It’s just cool; it’s a very intimate record, very vulnerable, not the easiest to make — so the fact that people are receiving it this well and healing from my healing is really special, to get to see the live form of that place now."
