Pop star Ed Sheeran has revealed he's spent a month battling shingles but he's "on the mend now".

Ed Sheeran has spent a month battling a secret health condition.

The Shape of You star has revealed he was struck down with a bout of shingles - a painful condition that causes a nasty rash stemming from a reactivation of the chickenpox virus - but Ed Sheeran has confirmed he's now "on the mend" after several weeks of ill health.

He made the revelation in an update on his Instagram page which he titled "Life Update Dumpington" in which he also revealed he's shaved off his famous red hair and his now sporting a buzz cut. In the message, Ed Sheeran wrote: "Yes I’ve shaved my hair. I wanted to shave it to signify a fresh start. A lot of new beginnings in my life ATM [at the moment]. I Iove it, thinking of keeping it this way."

He went on to add of his health issues: "I've had shingles for the last month, wouldn’t recommend it, but on the mend now."

Ed Sheeran also used the update to reveal he's added more concert dates to his Loop Tour in South America and had a catch-up with DJ Martin Garrix, adding: "[I've known] that guy for over a decade now, I love him, what a bloke."

The Thinking Out Loud star also revealed he's finally caught up with Netflix show Stranger Things - declaring season four "bangs" - read a book called Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and been shopping for vinyl records.

He added: "Been buying random vinyl at record stores, coming across some gems. Allan Taylor - the traveller I found in a record store in Williamsburg, and I love it. Can't find it anywhere online, so feels like a special vinyl in the collection."

Ed Sheeran has been busy with his Loop Tour, which kicked off in January, but he's had some time off after his shows in Australia , which wrapped in March, before he restarts the trek in the Dominican Republic on May 9.

He added of the tour: "Restarting the Loop Tour in a week and a bit, can't wait to get back cracking on that, see you lovely people there."
