Cher sparks wedding rumours after attending her son Chaz Bono’s wearing huge ring
Four years after she started dating her tomboy Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, singer Cher has prompted speculation about their relationship status after attending her son Chaz Bono’s wedding wearing a prominent diamond ring.
Cher has prompted speculation about her relationship status after attending her son Chaz Bono’s wedding wearing a prominent diamond ring.
The singer and actress, 79, attended the ceremony as Chaz Bono married his partner Shara Blue Mathes, with the wedding taking place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and drawing extra attention after Cher appeared wearing a large ring and band on her finger while celebrating with family.
Cher has been in a relationship with music executive Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, 39, since 2022, and the appearance of the jewellery has led to questions about whether the pair had quietly married or become engaged.
Representatives for Cher and Alexander did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Page Six.
According to the publication, however, sources indicated the couple are not engaged despite the speculation sparked among fans by the ring.
Cher attended the ceremony in a casual outfit rather than formal attire.
The singer wore a star-patterned sweatsuit with sneakers while watching Chaz and Shara exchange vows inside one of the hotel’s ballrooms.
Chaz and Shara have been in a relationship since 2017. Chaz is Cher’s eldest child and the son of singer Sonny Bono, who died in 1998 aged 62.
Cher and Alexander publicly confirmed their relationship in late 2022.
The couple’s romance has attracted huge scrutiny because of their age difference – a gap of more than four decades – but both have addressed the scrutiny surrounding the relationship.
Alexander has a son, Slash Electric Alexander Edwards, whom he co-parents with model Amber Rose.
Cher has previously spoken about the role the child plays in her life.
She said on the podcast Armchair Expert: “Before I met (Alexander), I walked around my house saying, ‘I want a man and a toddler’.”
The singer has also addressed rumours about a possible engagement in the past.
In 2023, Cher shared an image of a large teardrop-shaped diamond ring Alexander had given her, prompting speculation the couple were planning to marry.
During an interview with Access Hollywood, Cher described the ring as the “best Christmas gift” she had ever received.
Cher explained the reason the ring was not worn on her left hand ring finger.
She said: “(Alexander) said to me, ‘You’re the right girl, it’s the right ring, for the right finger’.”
Reports circulated again in December 2025 suggesting Cher and Alexander were preparing to marry, but a spokesperson for the singer dismissed those claims.
The representative said: “There (are) absolutely no plans for a wedding in her future.”
Cher has been married twice previously – first to singer Sonny Bono and later to musician Gregg Allman, who died in 2017 aged 69.
