A new open-world experience inspired by the chaos of Grand Theft Auto is heading to Fortnite later this month.

The project, titled Grand Heist City, has been created by streaming star Andre Rebelo — better known online as Typical Gamer — and his development team at JOGO Studios. The map will launch on March 14 using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and is described as the studio’s most ambitious project to date.

Designed as a mission-driven sandbox, Grand Heist City aims to recreate the feel of a crime-filled open world through cooperative heists, free exploration and chaotic multiplayer action. Rebelo said the idea was born from his lifelong love of Rockstar’s crime series.

He explained: "I’ve been a Grand Theft Auto fan all my life. I absolutely love the open-world concept. I love third-person games. That’s why part of my love for Fortnite is from games like Grand Theft Auto that really built up my gaming repertoire when I was younger."

The map has been built in collaboration with KitBash3D and supported by an Epic Games MegaGrant.

According to the developers, it pushes Fortnite’s technical limits to create a living city environment filled with missions and emergent gameplay.

Rebelo said the experience could even serve as a stopgap for fans awaiting Grand Theft Auto VI, which is currently slated for release in November 2026.

He said: "So to create an open-world experience in Fortnite, we knew it’d be extremely challenging. But we wanted to create one big experience that maybe people who are looking forward to GTA VI can play in the meantime."

Grand Heist City will also introduce in-island purchases, marking JOGO Studios’ first experiment with Fortnite’s creator monetisation tools.

With UEFN payouts to creators reportedly exceeding $700 million, the project highlights how Fortnite is evolving into a platform capable of hosting ambitious, standalone game experiences built entirely by creators.
