Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 beats Elden Ring to become most-decorated Game of the Year ever
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed Elden Ring to become the most-awarded Game of the Year title ever, cementing Sandfall Interactive’s debut RPG as a modern critical phenomenon.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has overtaken Elden Ring to become the most-decorated Game of the Year ever.
According to a long-running community tally on ResetEra - which tracks Game of the Year wins across major award shows, media outlets, podcasts and industry ceremonies - Sandfall Interactive’s RPG has now amassed 436 GOTY awards.
That figure surpasses the FromSoftware fantasy RPG's previously unmatched record of 429 wins, a total that stood for several years as the modern benchmark for critical dominance.
The ResetEra count follows strict eligibility rules, only including organisations that have operated for more than a year, employ multiple staff members and are not tied to a single platform.
It spans everything from headline-grabbing ceremonies such as The Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards to critic-led publications and curated reader votes, making the milestone a broad reflection of industry-wide acclaim rather than a single voting bloc.
Clair Obscur’s lead looks set to grow further, as several high-profile ceremonies - including the BAFTA Game Awards and the Game Developers Conference Award - have yet to announce their winners.
This means Sandfall’s total could climb even further before the awards cycle fully closes.
The game’s momentum was underlined this week at the 15th Annual New York Game Awards, where Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 picked up Game of the Year and Best Acting, with Jennifer English recognised for her performance as Maelle.
The win added further weight to the narrative that the French studio’s first project has resonated far beyond expectations.
