Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis announced by Crystal Dynamics
Crystal Dynamics has announced two new Tomb Raider games, revealing a major new mainline adventure with Tomb Raider: Catalyst and a modern reimagining of Lara Croft’s original 1996 debut with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios have unveiled two major new Tomb Raider projects, signalling a renewed push for the long-running franchise across both new stories and classic ground.
Revealed during The Game Awards, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is the next mainline entry in Lara Croft’s story and has been in development since Crystal Dynamics partnered with Amazon Game Studios in 2022.
Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game is set in Northern India following a mythical cataclysm that exposes ancient powers and attracts rival treasure hunters from around the world.
Players will guide Lara through Crystal Dynamics’ largest Tomb Raider environment yet, combining exploration, puzzle-solving and combat as she navigates shifting alliances and a race to prevent catastrophe.
Crystal Dynamics has said Catalyst is designed to be accessible to newcomers while still pushing Lara into more complex moral territory.
The studio is positioning the adventure title as a major evolution for the series, with deeper systems, a more open world and a story focused on trust, betrayal and consequence.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Alongside it, the studio also announced Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a full reimagining of Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure.
Developed in partnership with Flying Wild Hog, the remake revisits Lara’s hunt for the Scion artefact with modern visuals, redesigned gameplay and expanded storytelling, while preserving the tone and structure that defined the franchise’s debut.
Like Catalyst, it runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is set to release in 2026 on current-generation platforms.
Both games will feature Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft, continuing her role across the franchise’s future.
In a statement, Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Game Studios, said: “Tomb Raider stands among gaming's most beloved and enduring franchises, and we're thrilled to partner with Crystal Dynamics to bring two distinct Lara Croft adventures to players worldwide.
“This innovative new chapter with Tomb Raider: Catalyst, and the thoughtful reinvention of the series' roots with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, perfectly exemplifies our commitment to supporting developers with bold creative visions.
“We're focused on delivering rich, story-driven experiences that resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers, strengthening our dedication to high-quality gaming experiences.”
