Rick Hilton confronted would-be burglars with a shotgun when they invaded his home.

The 70-year-old businessman was home alone in Los Angeles, California, last month when three men allegedly smashed their way into the property via a kitchen window but showed no fear as he faced the would-be thieves with a weapon in his hand.

His wife Kathy Hilton - who was in Las Vegas for BravoCon with her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-stars at the time of the incident - told how her husband confronted them in the bedroom.

She told Us TV Show Extra: "They came in, broke the glass, and it was raining, and our security guy was down at the guest house.

"So Rick heard that. He got his shotgun out - sorry to say that - and they broke down [the door] ... in the front master bedroom. And he looked at them and said, 'You know what, get the f*** out of here. The police are on their way.'"

The couple's security guard then came to Rick's aid, but the hotel boss wasn't finished with trying to scare the men.

Kathy added: "Then our [security] guy came up, they met, they ran out and then [Rick] started shooting the gun out of his office in the air.”

Police arrived at Kathy and Rick's home shortly afterwards and the couple have subsequently upgraded their alarm systems.

The 68-year-old star noted: "It's crazy. If you touch anything… Carol came in today, and the whole house went off."

TMZ first reported details of the home invasion last month, which came on the same day Kathy's Real Housewives co-star Sutton Stracke's home was also targeted.

Law enforcement sources told the outlet Sutton's dogwalker had called 911 in the afternoon after discovering a broken kitchen window, and then hours later, Rick phoned police after discovering the three men inside his home.

It is unclear if anything was taken in either break-in or if the men have yet been apprehended.
