A Halo: Combat Evolved remake is reportedly in the works.

According to YouTuber MrRebs, a reimagining of Bungie’s classic 2001 shooter is in co-development at Halo Studios with Virtuos Studios’s Abstraction in the Netherlands.

The supposed remake will reportedly use a hybrid engine similar to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which was developed by Virtuos.

The project is said to position Halo Studios as the lead developer, with Abstraction in a secondary support role rather than full ownership of the remake.

After MrRebs published his video on the matter, XboxEra corroborated the claim, and said they also have a source that told them a Halo: Combat Evolved remake is coming.

A reveal of the supposed Combat Evolved remake could happen during the upcoming Halo World Championship event on October 24, 2025, where a deep dive panel on the future of the franchise is scheduled.

After announcing the developer’s rebrand from 343 Industries to Halo Studios last October, the company announced it would be moving away from their proprietary Slipsace Engine in favour of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.

Halo Studios explained it had chosen to do so after the team ran into problems with the development of 2021’s Halo Infinite.

In a blog post uploaded by Xbox Wire, Vice President and studio head Pierre Hintze said: “We had a disproportionate focus on trying to create the conditions to be successful in servicing Halo Infinite.

“[But switching to Unreal Engine 5] allows us to put all the focus on making multiple new experiences at the highest quality possible.”
