A new Strangers Things VR experience is coming later this year.

Location-based virtual reality experience company Sandbox VR - which has 57 sites around the world with a range of immersive experiences for popular IPs like Squid Game and Rebel Moon - has revealed plans for a new game set in Hawkins and the Upside Down.

Stranger Things: Catalyst will put fans right at the heart of the show, which is returning in November for the first of three parts of its fifth and final season.

In a press release, Sandbox VR said: "Players become part of the story as they explore iconic locations from the series, wield unique abilities, and confront terrifying creatures from the Upside Down."

The company noted that its AAA gaming studio uses "bleeding-edge virtual technology" to bring the world to life.

Sandbox VR makes use of its own motion-tracking technology which "captures the movements of a player's entire body", and lets the world unfold around you.

Steve Zhao, the company's founder and CEO, said in a statement: "Stranger Things, with its rich universe of supernatural phenomena and compelling characters, provides the perfect foundation for a truly groundbreaking VR experience.

"Our technology will allow fans to physically step into the story they've watched unfold over the past seasons, creating thrilling memories with friends as they face the horrors of the Upside Down together."

The game - which will be playable globally, be only at Sandbox VR locations - is arriving at the right time later this year.

The first part of Stranger Things season five will be available to stream on Netflix from November 26, with the other two blocks of episodes coming on December 25 and 31.
