OpenAI is reportedly considering building its own social network.
The artificial intelligence research organization is said to be coming up with a concept that will compete with Elon Musk’s X and Meta’s Instagram, according to CNBC.
A source claimed to the outlet that the "project is still in its early stages", and is inspired by their "newest image-generation feature", which is available through their ChatGPT platform.
Last month, it was revealed that OpenAI had developed an artificial intelligence model that is "good at creative writing".
The chief executive of OpenAI, Sam Altman, said it was the first time he had been “really struck” by the written output of one of the company's products.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sam wrote: “We trained a new model that is good at creative writing (not sure yet how/when it will get released).
"This is the first time I have been really struck by something written by AI."
The model has not been named yet and it has not been released publicly.
AI systems like Chat GPT are currently the subject of a row within the creative industries because their underlying models use publicly available data which includes copyright-protected material like journalism and novels.
In response to the announcement of the new model, Dan Conway, the UK Publishers Association's chief executive said: “This new example from OpenAI is further proof that these models are training on copyright-protected literary content. Make it fair, Sam."
