Chris Eubank Jr is set to trigger a rematch clause against Liam Smith.

The British fighter suffered a fourth-round knockout loss to his rival in last month's bout and Smith's promoter Ben Shalom is expecting a rematch to take place, with Liverpool's Anfield stadium in the frame to host the bout.

The BOXXER chief told Sky Sports: "We're hearing all indications that they are going to trigger.

"We know Chris really wants to fight again. His pride is hurt, he definitely wants a rematch from what I hear and ultimately Liam wants the biggest names and the big nights.

"It's in Eubank's hands and we can't really look past that until the time has elapsed and we expect him to want to rematch.

"I can't see a better option for Eubank Jr right now."

The promoter suggested that the home of the fighter's beloved Liverpool FC could be a potential venue for the rematch, although it would have to take place once the Premier League season concludes in May.

Shalom said: "If we can make sure the event takes place near enough to the last game of the season which I think is on the weekend of (May) 21, then there is a possibility.

"If we were able to get Anfield it would be the end of May."

Shalom also played down the possibility of an appeal from Eubank Jr's team over the use of an elbow by Smith as he secured the victory.

He said: "To be honest I think it's ridiculous. I think this is more coming from his team. I think they are looking at excuses as to why it happened. Liam Smith's combination, when you watch it back, was enough to knock anyone out."
