Experts have deployed a new hi-tech approach to analyse 480 hours of data collected from 820 stars by one of the largest telescopes on the planet.
AI was used to identify eight signals that scientists claim have been caused by communications technology from alien civilisations.
However, the data was collected in 2016 and the stars involved have now gone quiet. They are still being monitored in the hope of finding some signs of life but the little green men are unlikely to appear any time soon.
The alien bombshell was revealed by the mathematician and physicist Peter Ma, from the University of Toronto, in the journal Nature Astronomy.
He said that nearly three million of the signals were discarded as Earth-based interference but the team was left with eight alien candidates "drifting signals originating from some extraterrestrial source".
