Olivia Rodrigo and her longtime collaborator Dan Nigro have been named the ASCAP Songwriters of the Year for 2024.

The pair - who worked together on Olivia's 2023 album 'Guts' as well as her 2021 debut 'Sour' - were recognised for their songwriting talents at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers' annual awards ceremony on Wednesday (08.05.24) at the Houdini Estate in Los Angeles.

They landed the Songwriters of the Year prize for their tracks 'Vampire' and 'Bad Idea, Right?'. ASCAP said in a statement: "Olivia Rodrigo [and] Daniel Nigro are a true pop dream team.

"After taking the world by storm with 'Sour', the two followed up with a bona fide modern masterpiece in 2023: 'Guts'. Their bold, grunge inspired sophomore record brought critical acclaim, mainstream obsession, a sold out world tour and hits topping the charts."

Nigro addressed the honour in a post on Instagram, writing: "Thank you so much to ASCAP for naming Olivia and I as Songwriters of the year!!!

"Feeling very grateful today."

Olivia previously won the Songwriter of the Year award back in 2022.

She previously opened up about her love of songwriting in an interview with Time magazine, saying: "Young women are constantly compared to each other," she said. "I'm the 'new this' or 'this woman meets that woman,' and that can be reductive. I'm just Olivia. I'm doing my own thing. It's meaningful when people recognise that.

"Songwriting is the thing I take most seriously in my life. It's the most personally gratifying, too. At the core of it, all my songs are about me and my experiences and my feelings. It's an important lesson in controlling your own narrative, too."
